Women have come a long way over the years. It used to be, not to long ago, even in America which touts freedom to everyone as its value that women, who represent about half of the population, did not have nearly the same rights as men did. Women were treated as second class citizens, who just had to sit at home and take care of their children and cook and clean for their husbands.
Women in America and many places around the world have come leaps and bounds from the traditional perspective about the woman as inferior to the man. This realization has not been determined everywhere in the world, however, as in many places all over the world women are still treated terribly and denied basic rights that are granted to men.
That is why International Woman's Day is so important. This is day to bring recognition to the adversity that the female sex has overcome as well as the continuing adversity that females all over the world face even today.
This day will bring attention to the women who have worked hard and have succeeded and have proven that women are not naturally inferior to men. It will also bring attention to those women who are constantly being held down no matter how hard they try to break free. This is an important day to bring awareness to women, what they do in the world, and how they should be treated as equals to their male counterparts.
