The earthquake in Chile was an earth shattering and devastating event for all of those people who were involved and affected by this terrible action of Mother Nature. It should come as no surprise that people are looking for a way in which they can help those whose lives were turned upside down by the terrible earthquake.
The WFP was understandably eager to lend its help to those that are severely afflicted by this terrible earthquake. One of the most devastating things to come out of this whole ordeal is that notion that the WFP was not allowed to help without permission from the government. How can a government deny an organization that opportunity to help, something that is greatly in need, when there is such a massive scale of suffering happening in Chile. It is infuriating that this could be allowed and it seems backwards to not welcome an organization trying to help those that are suffering immensely with open arms.
This really bring this issue to the forefront, charitable organizations that are trying to lend a much needed helping hand in times of great devastation should not have to deal with all this unnecessary red tape from the government. These organizations are just trying to get the people's lives back on track and offer some much needed aid, in the form of food and water among other necessary items.
Natural disasters happen and there is not much that can be done to prevent them, but after they happen the response will determine the negative effects of the devastation, so anyone willing to help should be accepted with open arms.
