In order to be a disc jockey you need to have excellent verbal skills and a speaking voice that is pleasant to listen to. Some of the on job duties include introducing music, read commercials, read the news and weather, and conduct interviews. A radio disc jockey may even be asked to make public appearances at the country fair, a sporting event, or charitable event.
If you are still in high school, make sure that you take English courses, drama, and speech. If you are out of school, you should consider going to night school or college to get the required classes. You should also make recordings of your voice and ask teachers, friends and family for their opinions of your voice and if anything needs to be changed. You could consider seeing if you can get a part time job working with a disc jockey on a radio station while you are in school.
You could also work with a disc jockey at varies events. This is one way to find out what equipment is needed and how to use it. Even if you become a radio disc jockey, you may decide to become a mobile disc jockey as a side job.
If you are in high school and want to become a radio disc jockey see what colleges offer degrees in broadcasting and apply there although it is not necessary to have a broadcasting degree.
